-

Yes, check out our shop page.
-
Do I need experience in clay to become a member?
Yes, you do not need to be a professional. If you are comfortable with clay, have taken a few classes and want to practice and improve your skills, we have the perfect opportunity for you.
Know that we require a tour/orientation before you can use our equipment. This is for the safety of you, us, our equipment and the studio at large.
Check out our membership page for more information.
-
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
To request a cancellation and refund, you must email hello@tacomaclay.com. Refunds requested more than one week before the first class are fully refundable. Refunds requested within one week of the first class are 50% refundable. There will be no refunds once the class begins. Should a class not be filled, we may cancel it one week before the first class session.
If you would like to cancel your membership, we require 30-day notice before the end of your current month. When you cancel your membership you will continue to have access to the studio and its resources through the end of the month in which you canceled. Your membership will then end on the first day of the following month. If you have a door code, it will be disabled at the end of your last day. We do not prorate memberships.
-
Do you need me to wear masks?
Our mask policy follows the CDC guidelines. If required by the CDC we will ask you to mask up. Please be diligent about bringing and providing your own mask as we do not have them available. Should you choose to wear a mask in our space, sick or not, we will respect your decision.
Do not come to the studio if you are feeling unwell. Please continue to respect the personal space and boundaries of others.
To protect our community, the studio will be cleaned regularly. Owners are fully vaccinated and boosted. We respect your decision to choose your vaccination path.

Does Tacoma Clay offer raku, luster, soda, pit or wood firings?
We currently offer Raku and luster firings.
While we would love to offer many other alternative firing methods, we are somewhat limited as we are located in an urban setting. We do not have access to large outdoor spaces for soda, pit or wood firings. There are opportunities to explore different firing methods at partner studios in Tacoma, Seattle and other wonderful places in WA and beyond. If we can we will help you find a crew to work with.
We hope to do workshops in conjunction with them and will share that information as it becomes available.
-
How much do classes cost?
For adults, tuition will range from $50 to $400 for 4-8 week classes unless otherwise noted. Tuition includes 25 lbs. of clay (1 bag) with glazes and firings. Students can purchase additional clay from Tacoma Clay; we ask that students do not bring in any clays or glazes from other studios or suppliers without talking to the owners (April or Lucy). Tuition also includes the use of the studio classrooms during open studio hours.
For children's classes, tuition is $190 for 6 weeks and includes all materials.
-
Does Tacom Clay sell clay and pottery tools?
Yes, but only to our enrolled students and members. We are not a pottery supply store, but we do have clay and basic tools for sale. A basic set of five tools costs $20.00-$40.00 – class teachers can recommend tools for your class.
-
How can I purchase pottery made by Tacoma Clay artists?
We host two Open Studio/Sale events each year – in the spring and in December. Our students, members and artists are invited to participate, displaying a wide range of functional and sculptural clay work. Dates are announced a month or 2 in advance. We have a small window display year-round that can be marked for sale.
Our residents will have contact info on our residents page. You can contact them directly through those links for more specific information.
-
Does Tacoma Clay repair broken ceramic pieces?
No, we are not able to offer this service. We recommend that you get an epoxy from your local hardware store that is specifically for repairing ceramics – follow the directions for application on the tube and work slowly. You may want to try fitting all the pieces together first without the glue. Once repaired, your piece is now decorative – we do not recommend that you use a repaired piece for functional use anymore.
-
What is your weather policy?
Class may be canceled in the event of extreme weather. Students will be notified as soon as possible. If this happens, we will schedule a make-up class that works with the majority of people's schedules.
